Why I Decided To Apply For A Mathematics Teacher Training Scholarship - By Ruth Ejigayehu

Ruth EjigayehuIt was the year 2017 when I first truly engaged with the IMA. I had started working as an ambassador for the Maths Department at the University of Greenwich in the same year. Luckily that summer was also when the 2017 IMA Festival of Mathematics and its Applications would happen at my University. It was an amazing experience.

So many talks and activities where held over a period of two days. It felt like a whole weekend I wanted to stay in for ever.

Many incredible and inspiring mathematicians took the stage and left us amazed about the wonders of maths.

I know from the events I had experienced, fortunately, because of my University that the IMA is a professional, excellent and special environment. And if I had the chance I wanted to be part of it. It is important to me to be a good mathematician. This meant for me, I had to be able to teach and understand maths from the beginning. It also meant I needed to learn from those successful mathematicians which the IMA has in abundance.

So, I understood that the IMA has high expectations from us and that we get the opportunity to learn from incredible mathematicians and people. That is why I am thankful to be now part of it.
