Completing my training through a university means that I’m getting lots of guidance on learning about the theory behind teaching.

I surprised myself with how relaxed I felt stood at the front of the room teaching for the first time.

There was so much to gain becoming a Maths Scholar and in my opinion, absolutely nothing to lose.

I realised how mathematics is integrated into many areas of life and is an essential part of the growth of our society. I want to show these connections to students and show them how mathematics can be used to build and create amazing things.

My mentor and my school have been incredible with helping me see the big picture and the positives from challenging lessons but I think the most pertinent and timely piece of advice I’ve had from several of my colleagues was simply, you need to be kind to yourself!

I would encourage everyone to look into different teacher training schemes to work out what is best for them. But, for the best all round experience, I would definitely suggest School Direct. This
