Maths Scholar Chris Warner talks us through why he decided to apply for one of our Scholarships and become a maths teacher.

My initial teacher training year has been a challenging and rewarding experience. I have learned a lot throughout the past year, from pedagogy to practice, and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

As soon as I was actually in the room, I was energised and exhilarated. I loved working with the pupils and seeing how different ideas and activities landed.

If there is one thing that I have learnt this year, which has stood out, has been the sheer amount of support you will get as a trainee teacher. No matter what route you take in your training year, you will be surrounded by people willing to help you.

For the majority of the week I observed lessons, and made some notes whilst in those lessons. The time I was given for observation really helped me to settle in and get to know the school!
