About The Event
This webinar will outline some of the pedagogical benefits of using mathematical art tasks in the KS2, 3 or 4 mathematics classroom. Participants will be introduced to a selection of ready-made mathematical art lesson resources and will look at ways of using these resources to maximise engagement and support learning across different areas of the curriculum. Finally, there will be the opportunity to explore a couple of activities in more depth and create some mathematical art of our own! No prior experience necessary.
Equipment required: 5-6 sheets of plain A4 paper, a pair of compasses, and a pencil, ruler and eraser.
This event will be held from 10:00 - 12:00 (BST) on Saturday the 23rd of October 2021.
About the Speaker
Clarissa has been teaching secondary mathematics in the UK for twelve years. She holds a Master's Degree from the Faculty of Education at The University of Cambridge, and currently works as a post-16 specialist in the sixth form of a Suffolk Community College, where she is also the STEM Faculty Lead Practitioner. She has a passion for engaging children in their mathematics through exploring pattern making, mathematical art and origami, and runs a popular extra-curricular origami club where the focus is on collaborative origami projects.
She is the founder of ArtfulMaths.com, an online platform sharing ideas and resources to support the teaching of mathematical art and origami in schools. Clarissa is a trained coach and NCETM CPD lead with extensive experience of leading workshops for both teachers and students on a wide range of education topics. She also makes time to draw and paint her own geometric artwork.
