What Advice Would You Give Someone Undertaking Initial Teacher Training?

The biggest piece of advice that I would give to someone who is starting initial teacher training is to celebrate your successes when they happen, and they will happen.

When you have a great lesson that goes as you planned or even better than you had planned, when you react well to the unexpected, when you can feel the student's engagement or see their progress. Celebrate these moments and hold on to them so that when bad lessons happen, because they will happen as well (sometime for reasons completely outside of your control), you don’t feel completely discouraged.

During my school placements, I have found that it easy to get stuck on all the aspects of teaching that I need to improve upon. Equally easy to forget the positives. To forget all of the things that are going well and all of the progress that I have already made. You can’t go back and see how you were at the start of the placement and see how far you have come.
