Top Tips For The Assessment Stage

I was both relieved and nervous when I received the email to say I was through to the assessment round. When you open the email, you may find it a bit daunting and wordy at first, but every word is important! The next step is clear – wow the assessors and secure the scholarship! Here are my top tips on getting through the assessment stage:

It’s a MUST that you read the information provided with the email

This will put you in great steed for your assessment. There is a lot of key information that will help you ace your assessment. It carefully breaks down how the assessment will go and is extremely helpful.

Prepare

This may seem like an obvious tip, but as mentioned earlier, the key information tells you exactly how to prepare – you won’t be side tracked with any trick questions! Read thoroughly through all the information and think carefully about the answers you’d give.

Familiarise yourself with the topic you are looking at

Although at first, your topic may seem a bit too specific for cross-curricular links and for real-life application, there are always many points you could give for both parts of the assessment. You are given your topic in advance, so maybe you could make a list of all the real-life uses or cross-curricular links of your topic – there’s more uses and links then you’d think!

Don’t be put off by the assessors

Remember the interviewers are not looking to trip you up, listen carefully to any follow up questions they have as these could be beneficial to ensuring you meet the criteria for the Scholarship. They are experts in their field, but don’t find this intimidating, they genuinely want you to succeed.

Be Yourself

You love maths! That’s why you’ve chosen to teach it. Let that love for mathematics shine through – the assessors need to see your passion!

Relax

Don’t be scared! Just because it is an assessment, it doesn’t mean it is going to be hard. Following all my tips you’ll definitely have a great chance of getting the scholarship.

Good Luck – you’ve got this!
